Integrating Qualitative + Quantitative Data for Decision Making.
Established by congress in 2004 as an independent, foreign aid agency separate from the US State Department and USAID, the Millennium Challenge Corporation has invested over $13 billion in specific countries that are able to identify priorities and lead implementation of solutions that promote economic growth and poverty reduction.
Economists at the Millennium Challenge Corporation were used to making decisions based on quantitative data. However, the team wanted help understanding how to integrate qualitative research and design thinking into their process for making investments.
I designed and co-lead a training in design thinking and basic qualitative research methods before MCC staff left for Manila. I also produced research guides and template to help the team ensure consistent research across areas of interest. Blair Corcoran de Castillo and I traveled to the Philippines to support both MCC staff from the US and local Filipino staff in their research and synthesis process.
